Large sword could scratch, says Spooner (8)
I believe the answer is:
claymore
'large sword' is the definition.
'claymore' can be an answer for 'sword' (I've seen this before). I'm not sure about the 'large' bit.
I don't understand how the remainder of the clue works.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for claymore that I've seen before include "Scottish highlander's sword" , "mine, sort of" , "Highland sword" , "Scottish Highlanders' broadsword" , "Two-edged broadsword" .)
