Ross

I believe the answer is:

last

'latest' is the definition.
(synonyms)

'model of something down to earth' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'model' could be 't' (Ford Model T car) and 't' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'las' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for last that I've seen before include "Endure - this clue is!" , "Continue" , "most recent model" , "ending a series" , "Final; keep going" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
