Leading nowhere with presumably fatal finish (7)
I believe the answer is:
deadend
'leading nowhere' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot see how one could define the other.
'with presumably fatal finish' is the wordplay.
'with' says to put letters next to each other.
'presumably fatal' becomes 'dead' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'finish' becomes 'end' (synonyms).
'dead' next to 'end' is 'DEADEND'.
Can you help me to learn more?
I've seen this clue in The Irish Independent.
