Ross

I believe the answer is:

lint

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'fibres' is the definition.
(I know that lint is a fibres)

'left in the top some' is the wordplay.
'left' becomes 'l' (common abbreviation).
'some' says to take the initial letters.
The initial letter of 'top' is 't'.
'l'+'in'+'t'='LINT'

'cloth' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. It may be part of another bit of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for lint that I've seen before include "Soft material for dressing wounds" , "Wound-dressing fabric" , "Absorbent material for dressing wounds" , "Soft cloth for dressing wounds" , "Napped cloth used to dress wounds" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
