Lie in wait in old city, hiding in deserted Left Bank (4)
I believe the answer is:
lurk
'lie in wait' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'old city hiding in deserted left bank' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'city' could be 'ur' (ancient Sumerian city state) and 'ur' is found in the answer.
'left' could be 'l' (common abbreviation) and 'l' is found within the answer.
A single letter 'k' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'in' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for lurk that I've seen before include "Loiter with intent" , "Hang around in a secretive way" , "View an online forum without contributing" , "Skulk, hide" , "Behave in a sneaky and secretive manner" .)
