Crossword Genius

Like cast's second attempt for the audience (4,2)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

take to

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'like' is the definition.
(take to can mean to like or grow fond of)

'cast's second attempt for the audience' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'for' could be 'to' (eg both can mean 'in the opinion of') and 'to' is found within the answer.
'the' could be 't' (the is pronounced as a 't' sound in some dialects) and 't' is located in the answer.
'cast's second' could be 'a' (2nd letter of 'cast') and 'a' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for take to that I've seen before include "Develop a particular liking for" , "Become fond of" , "Develop a liking for, or adopt as habit" , "Like" , "Develop liking or ability for" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
