Like something sinful to dish out (8)

I believe the answer is:
devilish
'like' is the definition.
Both the definition and answer are adjectives. Perhaps you can see an association between them that I can't see?
'something sinful to dish out' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'sinful' could be 'evil' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'evil' is found within the answer.
'dish out' could be 'dish' (synonyms) and 'dish' is located in the leftover letters.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for devilish that I've seen before include "Very difficult to deal with" , "Very wicked" , "Mischievous; rakish" , "Diabolical" , "naughty" .)
