Like the pale faces of seven sisters (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

chalky

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'pale faces of seven sisters' is the definition.
Both the definition and answer are adjectives. Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'like' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'like' could be 'y' (similar in meaning) and 'y' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'chalk' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'the' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for chalky that I've seen before include "Dusty" , "White coloured" , "Mr White" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
