Crossword Genius

Limits on another ghastly line in fabric design (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

argyle

'design' is the definition.
(I know that argyle is a type of design)

I don't understand how the rest of the clue works.

(Other definitions for argyle that I've seen before include "Diamond-shaped knitting pattern" , "Lozenge-patterned sock" , "Woolly design" , "Design of diamond shapes, based on a Scottish clan tartan" , "Diamond-shaped pattern for woollens" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
