Linguistic flaw in news by newspaper head (9)
I believe the answer is:
wordiness
'linguistic flaw' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't see how one could define the other.
'news by newspaper head' is the wordplay.
'news' becomes 'word' (synonyms).
'by newspaper' becomes 'i' (the i is a British newspaper. I am not sure about the 'by' bit.).
'head' becomes 'ness' (ness is a headland).
'word'+'i'+'ness'='WORDINESS'
'in' is the link.
