Little bit of fancy fruit supposed to get cored (7)
I believe the answer is:
figment
'little bit of fancy' is the definition.
'figment' can be an answer for 'fancy' (I've seen this before). I'm unsure of the 'little bit of' bit.
'fruit supposed to get cored' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'fruit' could be 'fig' (fig is a kind of fruit) and 'fig' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ment' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for figment that I've seen before include "Contrived idea" , "Something that exists only in the imagination" , "Thought" , "Fancy, fabrication" , "Fantastic invention" .)
