Crossword Genius

Little time at the moment for insignificant player (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

minnow

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'insignificant player' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't understand how one could define the other.

'little time at the moment' is the wordplay.
'little time' becomes 'min' (I am not sure about the 'little' bit.**).
'at the moment' becomes 'now' (I've seen this before).
'min'+'now'='MINNOW'

'for' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for minnow that I've seen before include "Very small freshwater fish of the carp family" , "he's unimportant" , "Small person" , "Fish; underdog" , "A fish; insignificant person" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
