London’s place for putting a standard on the weekend? (5,4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

green park

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'london's place' is the definition.
I know nothing about this answer so I cannot judge whether this works.

'putting a standard on the weekend?' is the wordplay.
'putting' becomes 'green' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'a standard' becomes 'par' (I've seen this before).
'on' says to put letters next to each other.
'the weekend?' becomes 'k' (I've seen this in other clues).
'green'+'par'+'k'='GREEN PARK'

'for' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Another definition for green park that I've seen is " Public space in London, neighbour of Hyde and St James's?".)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
