Long - more than a year, anyway (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

yearn

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'long more than' is the definition.
'yearn' can be an answer for 'long' (synonyms). I'm not sure about the 'more than' bit.

'a year anyway' is the wordplay.
'anyway' becomes 'n' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'year'+'n'='YEARN'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for yearn that I've seen before include "wish" , "Have a craving" , "Long - pine" , "Curdle" , "Feel desire" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
