Crossword Genius

Long timber (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

pine

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

This might be a double definition.

'long' is the first definition.
(to pine for someone is to long for them)

'timber' is the second definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't see how they can define each other.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for pine that I've seen before include "A tree to grieve for" , "Long - timber" , "type of wood" , "Coniferous tree" , "Long for the conifer?" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
