Crossword Genius

Lord ruined in Great War, returning to get married, provides many pages with connections (5,4,3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

world wide web

'many pages with connections' is the definition.
(as in web pages)

'lord ruined in great war returning to get married' is the wordplay.
'ruined' indicates an anagram.
'in' indicates putting letters inside.
'great war' becomes 'wwi' (World War One or WW1 was called the Great War).
'returning' shows that the letters should be reversed in order.
'to get married' becomes 'bewed' (to be wed is to get married).
'bewed' reversed gives 'deweb'.
'lord' with letters rearranged gives 'orld'.
'orld' placed within 'wwi' is 'worldwi'.
'worldwi'+'deweb'='WORLD WIDE WEB'

'provides' is the link.

(Other definitions for world wide web that I've seen before include "www" , "Surfer's network" , "Tim Berners-Lee's invention" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
