Crossword Genius

Lorry circling cold northern area (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

arctic

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'northern area' is the definition.
'Arctic' can be an answer for 'area' (Arctic is an example). I am unsure of the 'northern' bit.

'lorry circling cold' is the wordplay.
'lorry' becomes 'artic' (articulated lorry is a semi-trailer truck).
'circling' indicates putting letters inside (circling can mean going around or containing).
'cold' becomes 'c' (eg on taps).
'artic' enclosing 'c' is 'ARCTIC'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for arctic that I've seen before include "Very cold (weather)" , "Northernmost regions" , "Very cold as in the far north" , "Area centred on the North Pole" , "Relating to North Pole region" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
