I believe the answer is:

odes

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'works of poetry' is the definition.
'odes' can be an answer for 'poetry' (ode is a type of poem). I am not sure about the 'works of' bit.

'love of the french' is the wordplay.
'love' becomes 'o' (love means zero in tennis).
'of the french' becomes 'des' ('of the' in French).
'o'+'des'='ODES'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for odes that I've seen before include "Lyric poems" , "Verses" , "Keats was fond of them" , "Poets write them" , "Lays" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
