Crossword Genius

Lunar vehicle runs past (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

rover

'lunar vehicle' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'runs past' is the wordplay.
'runs' becomes 'r' (cricket abbreviation).
'past' becomes 'over' (both can mean finished).
'r'+'over'='ROVER'

(Other definitions for rover that I've seen before include "Wanderer, rolling stone" , "Vehicle driven remotely over extraterrestrial terrain" , "rambler" , "Old scout" , "one in Bristol, one in Doncaster, perhaps" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times and The Sun.
