I cannot really understand how this works, but
'queen' could be 'r' (abbreviation for regina, e.g. in ER ) and 'r' is found in the answer.
'range' could be 'stove' (synonyms) and 'stove' is found in the remaining letters.
This accounts for all the letters.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
