Made sense when total was calculated (5,2)
I believe the answer is:
added up
'made sense' is the definition.
('add up' can be a synonym of 'make sense')
'total was calculated' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'total' could be 'add' (synonyms) and 'add' is located in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'when' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for added up that I've seen before include "seemed reasonable" , "Totted" , "Made sense of" , "Reckoned" , "Totalled" .)
