Magazine features butter and jam say (7)
I believe the answer is:
spreads
'magazine features' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'butter and jam say' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'say' could be 'read' (synonyms) and 'read' is located in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for spreads that I've seen before include "Extends the feasts?" , "Cover the surface of, as with butter" , "Extends; elaborate meals" , "Distributes or disperses widely" , "Lays out" .)
