I believe the answer is:

stack

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'make a pile' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'novelty acts at the king's head' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
an anagram of 'acts' is 'stac' which is present in the answer.
'king' could be 'k' (abbreviation for king in chess) and 'k' is present in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'with' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for stack that I've seen before include "Tall chimney" , "Place in ordered pile" , "Pile - chimney" , "functioned successfully in Scotland" , "Pile of hay" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
