Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't see how one could define the other.
'inspect lines' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'lines' could be 'script' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'script' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'con' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
