Make firm decision to accelerate (3,4,4,4)
I believe the answer is:
put ones foot down
'accelerate' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'make firm decision' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'make' could be 'puton' (putting on is a kind of making) and 'puton' is found within the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'to' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for put ones foot down that I've seen before include "Insist" , "shift" , "Determined" , "Act firmly" , "gain momentum" .)
