Manage to be unenthusiastic about the centrepiece (7)
I believe the answer is:
control
'manage' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'unenthusiastic about the centrepiece' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'about' could be 'on' (as in a book 'on' a certain topic) and 'on' is located in the answer.
'the' could be 't' (the is pronounced as a 't' sound in some dialects) and 't' is present in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'to be' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for control that I've seen before include "Exercise power over" , "Direct or determine" , "Check" , "Rein" , "domination" .)
