(I've seen this in another clue)

'love sonnets perhaps in french' is the wordplay.
'love' becomes 'o' (love means zero in tennis).
'sonnets perhaps' becomes 'verse' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'in french' becomes 'en' ('in' in French).
'o'+'verse'+'en'='OVERSEEN'
