Managed trial mostly in spite (7)
I believe the answer is:
rancour
'spite' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'managed trial mostly' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'managed' could be 'ran' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'ran' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'in' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for rancour that I've seen before include "Deep-seated bitterness" , "Bitter feeling or ill-will" , "Long-lasting bitterness" , "Spiteful hostility" , "Animosity" .)
