Marriageable character in opera (6)
I believe the answer is:
figaro
'marriageable character' is the definition.
'figaro' can be an answer for 'character' (I have seen 'Operatic character ' mean 'figaro' so perhaps 'character' could also mean 'figaro'). I am not sure about the 'marriageable' bit.
I don't understand how the remainder of the clue works.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for figaro that I've seen before include "Rossini's barber; Mozart's major-domo" , "Beaumarchais hero" , "Barber in Rossini opera" , "hairdresser" , "Operatic bridegroom" .)
