Crossword Genius

Meadow on vacant site for fixed-term rent (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

lease

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'rent' is the definition.
(I know that rent can be written as lease)

'meadow on vacant site' is the wordplay.
'meadow' becomes 'lea' (a lea is a grassy area).
'on' says to put letters next to each other.
'vacant' says to hollow out the word (remove centre letters) (a vacant or emptied out form of the word).
'site' with its centre removed is 'se'.
'lea'+'se'='LEASE'

'for fixed-term' is the link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may belong to another bit of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for lease that I've seen before include "From legal document" , "Let; rent" , "Summer's has too short a date (Shak.)" , "Rent (a property)" , "Contract to rent" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
