Meal eaten with head of state above (6)
I believe the answer is:
supper
'meal' is the definition.
(I know that supper is a type of meal)
'eaten with head of state above' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'head of state' could be 'er' (abbreviation for Elizabeth Regina) and 'er' is found within the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for supper that I've seen before include "consumer" , "Light, late, meal" , "Eats late" , "has one had a few drinks?" , "singing for this?" .)
