Crossword Genius

Mean street in outskirts of Guernsey (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

stingy

'mean' is the definition.
(both can mean miserly)

'street in outskirts of guernsey' is the wordplay.
'street' becomes 'st' (abbreviation).
'outskirts of' says to hollow out the word (remove centre letters) (only letters on the outskirts).
'guernsey' with its middle removed is 'gy'.
'st'+'in'+'gy'='STINGY'

(Other definitions for stingy that I've seen before include "Tight-fisted, like 25 and 22 Across" , "Close" , "Patch of nettles is" , "reluctant to spend money" , "Mean and grudging" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
