Meant being robbed of fame? (7)

I believe the answer is:
denoted
'meant' is the definition.
(denoting is a kind of meaning)
'being robbed of fame?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'being' could be 'ted' (Ted is an example) and 'ted' is found in the answer.
'of' could be 'o' and 'o' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'den' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for denoted that I've seen before include "Signified" , "Indicated or meant" .)
