Met governor, one originally from Asia (4)
I believe the answer is:
khan
'asia' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot understand how they can define each other.
'met governor one originally' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'one' could be 'an' (an apple is one apple) and 'an' is found within the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'from' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for khan that I've seen before include "Caravanserai; Asian ruler" , "Title of central Asian rulers" , "A Genghis successor?" , "Imran --, Pakistan's PM" , "Eastern potentate" .)
