Midday issue with denial for one retracted (8)
I believe the answer is:
noontide
'midday' is the definition.
(I know that midday can be written as noontide)
'with denial for one retracted' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'denial' could be 'no' (no is a kind of denial) and 'no' is present in the answer.
'one' could be 'i' (Roman numeral) and 'i' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'issue' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for noontide that I've seen before include "Midday" , "12" , "lunchtime? Certainly" , "Time" .)
