Military show inking on skin (6)
I believe the answer is:
tattoo
'military show' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'on skin' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'on' could be 'at' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'at' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'inking' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for tattoo that I've seen before include "one has to beat" , "Military entertainment or skin adornment" , "Drumbeat, or design on skin" , "Indelible picture or design on skin" , "Drum signal; skin mark" .)
