Crossword Genius

Mistake involving some lamb, maybe being salty (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

brackish

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'being salty' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'mistake involving some lamb' is the wordplay.
'mistake' becomes 'bish' (informal term for an error).
'involving' indicates putting letters inside.
'some lamb' becomes 'rack' (I can't explain this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'bish' going around 'rack' is 'BRACKISH'.

'maybe' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for brackish that I've seen before include "Rich bask in slightly salty water" , "rather salty" , "Sightly salty, as in river estuaries" , "Slightly briny" , "Sightly salty, as water in estuaries" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
