Mistake of singer beset by expressions of doubt (7)

I believe the answer is:
erratum
'mistake' is the definition.
(erratum is a kind of mistake)
'singer beset by expressions of doubt' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'singer' could be 'rat' (both can mean an informant) and 'rat' is present in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'of' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for erratum that I've seen before include "Printing error" , "fluff on paper" , "mistake in text" , "Mistake (in publishing)" , "Printing mistake" .)
