Monotony I find in strangely muted setting (6)
I believe the answer is:
tedium
'monotony' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'in strangely muted setting' is the wordplay.
'in' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'strangely' is an anagram indicator.
'setting' becomes 'i' (I can't explain this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'muted' with letters rearranged gives 'tedum'.
'tedum' enclosing 'i' is 'TEDIUM'.
'i find' acts as a link.
This may not be right. Some or all of it may belong to another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for tedium that I've seen before include "Routine" , "State of being bored" , "Dullness, monotony" , "Boredom with monotony" , "Boredom or dullness" .)
