Monster ding-dong fray - no limits? (7)
I believe the answer is:
chimera
'monster' is the definition.
(I know that Chimera is a type of mythical creature)
'ding-dong fray no limits?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'ding-dong' could be 'chime' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'chime' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ra' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for chimera that I've seen before include "Illusory achievement; mythical beast" , "Fantastic creation of the mind, like Greek mythical monster" , "Idle fancy" , "figment of the imagination" , "Illusion" .)
