Crossword Genius

More than half of biscuit dunked in that man's - sort of - tea (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

hibiscus

'sort of tea' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both plants as well as being singular nouns.
Maybe there's an association between them I don't understand?

'more than half of biscuit dunked in that man's' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'man' could be 'hi' and 'hi' is present in the answer.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

(Other definitions for hibiscus that I've seen before include "Plant of the mallow family - cub is his (anag)" , "Large-flowered plant of the mallow family" , "The rose mallow" , "Largely tropical flower" , "Large colourful flower" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
