Mountain tops in France, usually just ice (4)
I believe the answer is:
fuji
'mountain' is the definition.
(Mount Fuji in Japan)
'france usually just ice' is the wordplay.
'france' becomes 'f'.
'usually just ice' becomes 'uji' (this could be a standard abbreviation which I don't know about).
'f'+'uji'='FUJI'
'tops in' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may be part of another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for fuji that I've seen before include "Sacred Japanese mountain" , "Japanese mount" , "Japan's highest peak" , "Mount of Japan" , "Highest Jap. mountain" .)
