Mountains where the fires are lit (5)
I believe the answer is:
range
'mountains' is the definition.
(range of mountains)
'the fires are lit' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'are' could be 'ran' (running is a kind of being) and 'ran' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ge' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'where' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for range that I've seen before include "Extent; line of mountains" , "practise shooting here" , "Distance aircraft can travel" , "specific category" , "Old song: ''Home on the . . . . .''" .)
