Ross

I believe the answer is:

couple

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'mum' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't see how they can define each other.

I cannot understand how the rest of the clue works.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for couple that I've seen before include "Link together - say two married people" , "Two of a kind" , "Unite" , "Bonnie and Clyde, say" , "Duo, brace" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
