Crossword Genius

Munch berries, audibly, as nut? (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

cashew

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'nut?' is the definition.
(cashew is a kind of nut)

'munch berries audibly as' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'as' is present in the answer.
'munch' could be 'chew' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'chew' is found in the leftover letters.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for cashew that I've seen before include "Common type of nut" , "Edible nut" , "Chew as you would this nut" , "nut-tree" , "Kind of nut" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
