Crossword Genius

My butler's ruffled, hosting standard American social event (7,5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

slumber party

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'american social event' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot understand how one could define the other.

'my butler's ruffled hosting standard' is the wordplay.
'ruffled' indicates an anagram.
'hosting' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'standard' becomes 'par' (I've seen this before).
'my'+'butlers'='mybutlers'
'mybutlers' anagrammed gives 'slumberty'.
'slumberty' enclosing 'par' is 'SLUMBER PARTY'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for slumber party that I've seen before include "Overnight gathering of young girls (in pyjamas?)" , "some do all night" , "Overnight social event for (American) teenage girls" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
