Crossword Genius

Natives accepted woman, one born at sea (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

indians

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'natives' is the definition.
(I have seen 'Natives of Delhi ' mean 'indians' so perhaps 'natives' could also mean 'indians')

'accepted woman one born at sea' is the wordplay.
'accepted' becomes 'in' (I've seen this in other clues).
'woman' becomes 'Di' (short for Diana).
'one born at sea' becomes 'ans' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'in'+'di'+'ans'='INDIANS'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for indians that I've seen before include "Denizens of Delhi, say" , "People" , "Natives of Delhi" , "Workers'" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
