Nettle with grains male put in party dish (7,3,4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

bangers and mash

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'dish' is the definition.
(I have seen 'Simple dish ' mean 'bangers and mash' so perhaps 'dish' could also mean 'bangers and mash')

'nettle with grains male put in party' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'nettle' could be 'anger' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'anger' is present in the answer.
'with' could be 'and' and 'and' is found in the answer.
'male' could be 'm' (common abbreviation) and 'm' is found in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for bangers and mash that I've seen before include "Simple dish" , "Grub" , "course" , "That's for popular consumption" , "Sausage dish" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
