Crossword Genius

Never worried about eastern front (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

veneer

'front' is the definition.
(I have seen 'False front ' mean 'veneer' so perhaps 'front' could also mean 'veneer')

'never worried about eastern' is the wordplay.
'worried' indicates anagramming the letters.
'about' indicates putting letters inside.
'eastern' becomes 'e'.
'never' with letters rearranged gives 'vener'.
'vener' enclosing 'e' is 'VENEER'.

(Other definitions for veneer that I've seen before include "Thin covering on the outside" , "Thin wooden covering" , "Thin layer of wood or plastic" , "Thin layer on surface, often of furniture" , "Thin wooden facing" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
