Crossword Genius

New fronts for cafes (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

faces

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

This clue might be a double definition.

'new fronts' is the first definition.
'faces' can be an answer for 'fronts' ('face' can be a synonym of 'front'). I am not sure about the 'new' bit.

'cafes' is the second definition.
The answer and definition can be both man-made objects as well as being plural nouns.
Perhaps there's an association between them I don't understand?

'for' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for faces that I've seen before include "Mugs" , "Meets defiantly - moves head accordingly" , "With 1a [NEW], TV talent show" , "Confronts" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
